Dana Elaine Owens, better than Queen Latifah America, is a rapper and actress. Queen Latifah is an American actress, rapper and singer. Queen Latifah was born in and was raised in Newark New Jersey the daughter of Rita teacher who taught at Irvington High School and Lancelot Owens Sr. as a police officer. Latifah's parents divorced at the age of Latifah was ten years old. aged, was 10 years old. Latifah was raised in the Baptist religion and went to Catholic school in Newark New Jersey. Latifah means gentle and very kind. Her mother gave it to her when she was 8. Always tall, the 5'10 tall Latifah was a power forward on her high school basketball team. In her high school's play, Latifah performed "Home" from The Wiz. Latifah began beatboxing with the ladies fresh rap group. Latifah was one of those who were part of the first version of the Flavor Unit which at that time was a crew composed of MCs and producers led by DJ Mark the 45 King. Mark James, aka DJ Mark the45 King, recorded the rap of Queen Latifah, aka Princess of the Posse. He gave the recording to Yo! MTV Raps the Fab Five Freddy. Dante Ross, an employee of Tommy Boy Music who heard the track and made a deal with Latifah in 1988 for the release of her first track Wrath of My Madness.
